Roofing in Little River

The state line runs through the market here, and it matters more for who you hire than for what goes on the roof.

Little River is at the top of the Strand, on the waterway and against the North Carolina border. Two things follow from the location.

The state line and the licence

Plenty of contractors here work both sides, which is entirely normal. It does mean a company may hold a North Carolina licence, a South Carolina registration, or both, and the one that matters for your roof is the one covering the state your house is in.

South Carolina publishes a licence verification service through its Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Search the company as it appears on your contract. A North Carolina credential is not a South Carolina one, and after a storm that distinction gets blurred in conversation. See checking a contractor.

Absent owners

A large share of property here is second homes and rentals whose owners live elsewhere. The roofing consequence is the timing of discovery: nothing is noticed until somebody is here, and in a humid coastal climate a leak that has run for a season is a structural problem rather than a stain.

Two habits fix most of it. A scheduled inspection twice a year, spring and after storm season. And somebody local who will actually go and look after a named storm rather than waiting for the next visit.

If you are arranging work remotely, be explicit about that when you call. It changes which company is a good fit far more than the size of the job does.

Waterway and marsh

Properties on and near the waterway get the marsh corrosion environment described for Murrells Inlet: salt, persistent damp, and often less drying wind than open beach. Hardware specification matters, and the hardware is what fails.

Older stock

There is genuinely old property here, and older property means unknown decking, possible multiple layers, and previous repairs of variable quality. Per sheet decking price and per layer tear off price, both in writing, before work starts.

Tell us about the roof

Send the details and they go to one independent local roofing company. If this is a rental or a second home and you are not local, say so and we will route it to somebody used to working without the owner on site.
